Model Rocketry in OK

I used to build and launch model rockets with my dad growing up in NM where we had vasts amounts of public land. I'd like to do the same with my boy when he gets older. So far the only thing I've found is in Duncan. Anyone around the OKC area do launches?

My experience with model rockets is much like the north koreans. The only one I tried to launch went up about 3 feet and crashed. I guess the motor didnt have enough lift. It was a model of a sidewinder missle.

Where in New Mexico did you grow up at? I was born and raised in Espanola and launched many rockets behind our house in the foot hills.

I built a lot of models before I discovered gurls and guns. I would launch them at Lake Overholser. I once had several Game Rangers tell me I couldn't shoot "fireworks" off at the lake. Somebody else convinced them that since these were model rockets it was ok.

Gallup. Lots of canyons around we used to paintball on/go shooting/etc. I miss having the unstructured outdoors environment we had there. Seems like around here it's either a WMA or private property, lol.

I've been lookin into these lately myself, found some that have BIG motors for them.

Built a rocket, lost it after 1 launch, used remaining rocket motors and launcher to lift various toys and GI joes into orbit. Lost those too.

I've been mulling over getting back into Model Rockets. Used to build my own when I was a teenager. Great fun, plus you can use the engines in pine derby cars
