I've been a BAR (Born Again Rocketeer) for 7 or 8 years now. Originally flew some Estes rockets in High School back in the late 70's. When I retired from the military in 2004 I took up high power model rocketry to fill in the time I used to be deployed.

Been flying with a club out of Tulsa since then. Great bunch of people, but it's a long drive. I think I'll contact the Piedmont club and see what's up with them. Thanks for the link.

I used to launch rockets as a kid. Got some for my kids and we built them. Shot the first one off. It went up and up and up and up. Out of sight. No smoke no streamer. Nothing. They and their mom looked at me and said well that's it. It's gone. I had to explain what was supposed to happen. So reluctently we shot the second one off. It went better that time as we did retrieve it. But the initial excelleration tore off the fins. Guess I bought motors that were too big.

I bought one in high school that had a 2 stage motor. The second stage was just a small firecracker or something. It's purpose was to blow the nose cone off where a parachute was stored. We launched it out in the country, where it went out of sight. We waited a long time before spotting the chute. The wind carried it across the river, never to be seen again.
