They activated and deployed a guard unit from Mississippi for the Inauguration????

The Armed Forces Inaugural Committee and the manpower surrounding the event is typical staffed by volunteers from around the military. Most know exactly what they are in for, or should've done some research. It's not glamorous duty, and isn't intended to be. They are the cogs in the wheel, behind the scenes.

There is zero context in the picture...what were all of the menu choices? What else was offered? Is this what the individual chose to put on his plate, leaving the usual fresh fruit and other options out for maximum effect?

The outrage is lost on me. T-rats are standard military fare. So I'm supposed to be upset because some guy got fed T-rats? Big friggin YAWN!

Folks looking for a way to bash Obama? This is an idiotic way to do it.....come up with a better plan.

They activated and deployed a guard unit from Mississippi for the Inauguration???? What a waste of taxpayer money. AND, fed them that stuff? Another example of misuse and poor treatment of our military. They deserve much better.

However, if they had issued EBT cards that tray would look much different. :mean::laugh6:

My standards are not that high since I ate lunch for 12 years at dear old Ponca City Public Schools but I never ate crap that looked like that... And I am sure you didn't as well.

I went through college on ramen and canned tuna man. Besides, high school lunches are "healthier" these days as your first ladies initiative... That is what po-hi hot lunch looks like now... But most take the domino's and McD's in the cash line lol

Thats probably true.

Let me help on this a little. After 5 1/2 years active, a buddy talked me into the Army Reserves. Even though I was a 32D20 tech, I had to sign up as a Drill Sergent. I ran new troops for a couple of years, and got tired of the 80 hour weeks at summer camp, so transferred into the cooks section, as I liked to cook at home.

The military food preperation runs by a strict set of rules. No salt, and minimal spices. There are specified times/temperatures etc that have to be followed. Its pretty bland stuff.

Most soldiers carry some hot sauce, etc. I hope this helps you understand why that plate of food didn't look so good.

Also key to understand that what was on that plate was probably more nutritional than what most folks shove down their pie hole every day. It's fuel. They ate it for a couple days or a couple weeks at most....some GI's live/have lived off that stuff for months/years.
