RachaelVineyard:

There are a great number of anti-gun activists who openly express their opinion that the 2nd Amendment should have less importance that the "immediate safety" afforded by gun bans and restrictions. That is a verifiable fact, not opinion. What they routinely fail to realize is that the 2nd Amendment has likely saved millions of innocent lives since the Bill of Rights went into effect on December 15, 1791. They have no concept that self determination and preservation of one's rights often relies heavily on the gun to remain intact. Could you argue that because you have a right to life, no one can ever kill you? It would be exceedingly foolish to think that a piece of paper will prevent one's death. You need look no further than the number of innocent women killed by their estranged husbands and boyfriends, whom they had a protective order against. Paper is feeble when violence comes knocking at your door.

Whether it's personal or institutional, when tyranny comes for you only a gun will give them pause. This is a sad fact of life, but a fact nonetheless.
