Some of the lesser ranking AK's are definitely cheaper than SKS M's or D's.

Frankly, I think the SKS's are better rifles (in semi-auto).

Back in the '90's I had a Norinco SKS and a MAK 90. I preferred the SKS for the longer barrel, longer sight radius, bayonet, and bolt hold open over the neutered muzzle, bayonet lug, and thumbhole of the MAK 90.

Now I've got a Norinco SKS and an Arsenal SGL21. The SKS tends to sit at home a lot.

-3 Can you convert your NORINCO SKS to take AK magazines?
