It's an Ruby M1914. Similar to an Astra 1915/1916.

I agree that its a Star or Ruby, Check the bottom of the grip where the magazine goes in, if there is a star stamped there it was probably used by the French in WW!, I have one that very closely resembles it, The American Rifleman had an article on them a while back.
