Think one of the largest problems is grease buildup. About once a month I fill the garbage disposal sink with 1/4 cup of dawn and warm water, then run it and drain the water. I haven't had any issues with a garbage disposal or drains yet. Last time I replaced one was around 2008.

Do have a question though, if one "deletes" their garbage disposal, will they need to re install one when it comes time to sell the home?

I would think that instead of that 'cleanout' with the elbow that you should have an air admittance valve.

Edit to add: You could probably check that theory by removing the black cover on the cleanout and see if it helps. If it does, AAV may be the solution.

Wouldn't think so , you'll change the drain and peetrap to accommodate the new basket strainer you use ( kitchen sink drain), unless you list it with a garbage disposal. 😁

I'm on city.

I loosened the cap on the stack, didn't take it all the way off. The gurgling has gone away from what I can tell so that made a difference. No sewer order yet....

I'm not sure if I'll be able to snake that 3", if I can get to it this morning, I'll try it.

Thanks for all the input guys.
I don't know if you saw my post above, but I'd recommend getting an air admittance valve on there. Their purpose is to prevent sewer gas. I'm not a plumber so don't know about a 3" pipe being self venting, but sure doesn't seem like it would hurt to have one in place.

I did, thinking on how to fit one under the sink.
If it were mine I would put two 90s on the stack to turn toward the back of the sink. With a reducer to 1.5". Then turn up and put an aav up as high as possible under the sink back. You could probably get away with pushing the PVC pieces together and silicone around the edges or use a rubber connection somewhere to make it easy to remove. They might make a 90 with clean out opening.

Kind of related, I see too many folks that think all food waste goes into the disposer. That is a problem looking to happen. Scrape the food waste into the trash, or compost it if applicable. Use the disposer for the small stuff that is rinsed off. I've seen someone send a bucket of potato peelings down a disposer. Took 10 times longer than putting it in the trash.
