If you do your own maintenance they certainly don't build them with maintenance in mind. Valve cover gaskets, plugs & coil packs(a few in the rear)etc. are a HUGE effort to change/get too.

Friend of mine has a Dodge pickup with the Hemi engine. At about 130K the engine had a broken valve spring. Mechanic said this is a common problem...

Look up "cam phasers" and "spark plugs break off in the heads" for the 04-08 5.4L Triton Fords. Then you will know what a common problem is.

My BIL bought an 05 Dodge about a year after I bought a new 04 F-150. His repairs have consisted of an idler pulley. My repairs include ring and pinion replacement, window regulator replacement, had to pay a Ford mechanic to change the spark plugs because you need a special tool to retrieve the spark plugs that break off in the heads, new driveline (because the u-joints are non-serviceable), and I need to get the cam phasers fixed but don't really want to spend 1300 fixing that to have them go bad again a year after repair.

My truck only has 115,000 the BILs truck is past 140,000. I rest my case.

The 2v 4.6 and 5.4 are not Ford's best engines. But I don't think the hemi is the best thing since sliced bread.

They are great reliable trucks. The last one I had was an '06 crew cab with 185000+ miles on it; used a little oil but ran great, I used it as a farm truck. I had an '07 before the '06 and wish I had never sold it but got an offer I couldn't refuse. I traded off the '06 for a silverado only because the rebates were insane and I couldn't say no at the time.
