BUT what can we do as of now short of declaring war with them?
Considering that the Korean Peninsula is still, technically, in a state of war (it was "ended" by an armistice, not a peace treaty), that would only serve to make things official.

There's not really a hell of a lot we can do, short of reigniting the shooting war. The DPRK just thumbed their noses at the Chinese as well as the US, so it's not at all likely that talking will get them to do anything (not that it's worked in the past, either)... With our troop commitments in Afghanistan and the toll a decade of fighting has taken on our military personnel, I'm not sure we'd really want to reignite that powder keg, so we're pretty much stuck with the UN Model of Threat Containment: If you do not stop, we shall say "stop" again, and send you a sternly-worded letter asking you to please stop what you're doing...

As the Korean 'conflict' was a UN (a non-nation entity) endeavor and no US declaration of war was voted on by Congress... there is no need to go and fight. Since so many on this forum are against the UN, why give that group sanction and legitimacy by sending sons to die for something like this...

The non-aggression principle goes a long way in avoiding trouble with others. Too bad we don't extend that to the national arena the same as we do at the personal level.
