Graphic video warning!

Earlier this week, a New York Officer trying to render aid to a homeless man having a seizure had to shoot a Pit Bull as it rushed to attack the officer. Cops had already tried pepper spray without any effect! It almost starts a mini riot. Dozens of other officers had to be called in to control the crowd.

I'm posting a link to the video because it shows just how fast a charging viscious dog like a pit can cover 15-20 feet in no time at all. The officer barely got his single shot off before the dog lands on his feet. A determined attacker with a knife would be just as quick. There may come a time when you have to react in a split second to a situation... just like this officer had to do.

It is amazing how many people worried a heck of a lot more about a dangerous pit bull being shot than the homeless guy laying semi-conscious in the street.... that the police were trying to get to to help.

I think some of the crowd would have attacked the officer physically if not for the extra officers.

Some of the comments on that video are appalling. If the dog would have bit the officer I have no doubt a few of the people in the crowd would have thought it was ok. The owner should have had the dog on a leash though.

Here's what I saw: angry dog charges officer, officer shoots dog point plank, homeless guy never flinches, hysterical lady in black slacks makes scene worse by wishing the dog was attached to cops leg instead of being shot, probably 90% of NY population have never seen an animal die from unnatural causes and don't know how to react, dog needed a second shot to finish him off but probably not wise considering the situation. Thanks for the graphic warning, you prepared me for the lady in the black slacks:)

Was the owner the dude having medical issues? Looked to me like the dog was protecting seizure guy. It would help to know the story from the beginning.

From what I read, the dog belonged to the homeless guy! The old woman standing next to the down guy had her pants leg nipped just before the dog rushed the officer. If the crowd hadn't been so loud and the old woman butting in like she was.. the dog might not have been so aggressive. The police had to tell her and someone else to get back several times.

That was uncalled for shooting the dog. At what point did the police attempt to render assistance to the man after they shot the dog? I fast forwarded through it and it didnt seem to much of a pressing point.

It nipped some one? Pit mix? Sounds like BS for a CYA to not seem so much of a pansy. Of course the dog is going to be excited. Its master is hurt or dying, its been pepper sprayed buy the men in black, large croud, yelling and noise. Looks like at 422 the dog catcher shows up. Lil to late. Sorry I have no sympaty for the cop that shot the dog.

Reminds me of a video a few months back when a cop showed up to the wrong address and shot a dudes dog on his own property.
