Obama Eliminates Breakfast for US Troops in Afghanistan

The Army has stopped serving cooked breakfasts to some of the U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan as part of its drawdown, a move that prompted troops to write home asking their families and friends to send care packages with cereal, breakfast bars and other foods.

The administrations excuse is that it's to help in the preparations to shut down or turn over that base.

Sounds like BS to me.

I'm sorry folks, but I don't recall too many hot "meals" when I was playing with my Uncle Ho's cousins. Most of what we had to eat were C rations, and if we wanted them hot, we heated them ourselves.

There were many times when we had nothing to eat for 2 to 3 days at a time.

I don't recall anyone blaming Nixon for that.

2,700 troops in forward positions, have to eat MREs instead of a cooked breakfast. So only two cooked meals are available to them in any 24 hour period? Is that as tough as it sounds?

This wasn't a Presidential decision. The decision is directly attributed, in the article, to the BCT commander. They still get two hots a day. It takes a huge logistics train to get A-rats to those forward bases...some of which are only reachable by rotary wing. By dropping one hot meal a day, they can eliminate a big part of that train...less missions, less troops in danger, smaller footprint.

Troops always ***** about chow...they have forever. When drawdowns happen, things get cut...things that you once enjoyed get taken away. Get over it or get out of the military.

What until they start bitching about the Lithuanian barber chicks getting pulled out of the forward bases....oh the tragedy!

Look, it's not like it was 40 years ago...I had hot meals every time I wanted it in Desert Storm. This is BS. You ask these guys to do something that I don't even need to explain to you...feed them a hot meal if you can!! Look at what these, and I don't care what their political leanings are, @holes spend in Washington! The logistics are there, the technology is there, if you can't feed them hot meals...then you should suck @ss like you're making them do!

Yes sbeebe, the logistics is there, but that's the point. Feed them good when you can, but we are phasing out our operations there. Logistics will, and has to, turn towards the redeployment effort, not running eggs and bacon out to a FOB or COP.

The real soldiers are sucking it up and moving on...not writing letters to their Congressman or mommy because they couldn't get eggs to order.

I was in the 7th Infantry Division, in Korea, in 1953. There were a lot of days when it was not possible to feed us hot meals, but on most of those days we had C rations. Any time they could get us hot meals the Army gave is hot meals.
What else have they cut to save money?

I just see the money they spend on pomp and circumstance with the swearing in and it pisses me off, ya know? I go to the VA regularly and I hear the stories of those who can't cope afterwards (and I've seen it on here) and it just makes me plain mad as hell!
