Thanks for your time in Korea DA.

But from what I've read, it's not a money thing...it's a logistics and drawdown thing. Big difference.

We are leaving Afghanistan. It takes a massive effort to draw down what we've built up over there. Things will have to change, standards of living, chow, and other services.

You would be amazed at the things the troops at the forward bases enjoy these days...especially compared to your days; drop off laundry, 4 hots a day, coffee shops, real female barbers, internet, telephone etc...

All of it is great, give it to them when we can by all means. But you can't keep all that up until the last troop walks up the ramp of the Chinook. Not going to happen.

Please...it's not an Obama thing for me. I know exactly what SMS is talking about. If it's a short, temp thing...no big deal. Maybe I'm too quick to jump on this. I know how it went for me...23 years ago. Hey, in Saudi we had no women so it has to be better...

Troops are good at sucking it up and doing what's necessary... I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here.

Perhaps there is some other morale issue here contributing to these complaints or the actions are not understandable for whatever reason. When are these forward bases schedule to close? I have a hard time believing that just removing one meal allows them to reduce footprint by 40% like is being reported.

I would except this type of reaction from the chair force but the Army?
:)

Hey dude! Your so-called "Chair Force" was in place way before anyone else. I don't want to start any kind of argument, but my unit was way in advance of any other in times of crisis. How would you get there if it were not for the "Chair Force"? OK...we're all a team...remember that.

How are you going to cook 4 hots a day while you're drawing down support (cooks) personnel? I dislike Obama as much as the next guy but there are plenty of legitimate reasons to dislike him without of this kind of stuff. Have you ever served in a war zone?

well... you make a good point, but let's just say everyone except for the Marines instead. :)

I guess I am a little guilty of wanting this to be Obama's fault. SUCK IT UP DOGGIES!!!
My mos school was on the Army base in Huntsville AL. Solders were angry if they couldn't get the omelets made to order.

I'm gonna join the "get over it" crowd. It's hardly the end of the world that breakfast isn't cooked by someone for the soldiers while facilitating a pullout of forces. It clearly says the chow hall offers cereal and other items plus they get an MRE for breakfast and a midnight meal. Troops writing home for cereal is overly sensationalised for effect in this article. So the truth is probably that the chow hall has Cheerios while the troops want Cap'n Crunch. Clearly the author is trying to make the current administration look bad (they are doing that themselves) for something that isn't even an issue. I imagine if you gave the troops the choice between having a sausage and eggs for breakfast while staying in country longer or eating cereal and getting home sooner they would choose the latter every time.

When I was in the military it wasn't wartime and, by comparison, it was a much easier life. However, chow hall breakfast sucked butt. Just talking about it brings back memories of the stench of rotting food and garbage next to the chow hall. The food was terrible consisting of scrambled eggs and shells, some kind of mystery meat or a meat sludge on toast ( classic sh*t on a shingle). After a week of that cereal was a blessing or *gasp* even a MRE.

The men and women serving over there are tough and I seriously doubt they will be brought to their knees by cereal. Frankly the author of this article should be ashamed for painting our troops as whiny little children complaining about their breakfast. If getting them home sooner means feeding them Cheerios for breakfast or midnight meal so be it.
