And some of us were reading "Rules for Radicals" about the time you were just learning to read, grasshopper. My favorite Alinsky qoute: "Don't worry, boys, we'll weather this storm of approval and come out on the other side just as hated as ever". As for "Rules..." as a serious ideological work , I much prefered Richard Weaver's book, "Ideas have Consequences".

I've read .45 and 9mm as well as a revolver but the time frames and rates of fire based on casing disbursement don't seem to support that one.

I've heard from a cop in that vicinity that he was using a Glock 21 but, as with everything, I'm not believing anything until the final report comes out. Early reporting is nearly always wrong.
Remember the hero female cop who single handedly took out Major Hasan during the Fort Hood shooting? When the smoke cleared, it turned out she didn't...she got shot and her partner took Hasan down.

Well, they're graveyard dead, so it had to be a .45.
The reports have bounced around so much that only the official report will tell. There seem to be people coming out of the woodwork on various forums claiming someone they know who knows someone who knows for sure that it was a Glock 21 .45. Others claiming the same "inside scoop" swear it was a revolver. The G-21 makes more sense for sure, but we just don't know for sure yet.
I've seen one person say they know someone who knows the cop personally, and the reason he shot so well is because he's a former IPSC Grand Master. So who knows?
That would have him carrying either a finely tuned race gun, or a Taurus 24/7 in 9mm........does make ya wonder
