This was definitely a massive escalation on the part of the officer. I don't think the problem was a language issue, but rather a cultural one. I hate that the old man got hurt, and I hate that the young cop cost his city what the taxpayers will end up paying.

The militarization of the police is a difficult subject to discuss rationally. It isn't just tactics and policies. Many of those young cops out there had just barely been discharged from hot zones on the other side of the world when they joined the academy. Lots of them are so ridiculously young and inexperienced with culture and woefully undereducated in history.

I don't disagree with this either , and to be perfectly fair in a perfect world cops would still look like Adam 12 if I had my way. I think a big part of perception these days goes back to average cops wearing tactical style gear, but at the same time. I am not talking about the guns carried , but looking more like soldiers than cops.

That is another matter though , the old man broke the rules and the cop used a modicum of bad judgement. I honestly can't see anyone getting a huge payday , but the old man will probably get all the charges dropped and his doctor bills paid for. State law isn't on the old man's side in this one.

I think more training in de-escalation with a focus on not causing unnecessary physical harm would be a good thing overall. And maybe cut back on the frantic screaming they do. Not sure if they are told to do that but it doesn't help anything.
Too me, and I may piss off some LEOs here, but I think these younger cops have a huge chip on their shoulder and think "I'm greater than thou".
I've been told that by a veteran LEO too.
If you wanna wear a chip on your shoulder, step into a cage match. It.will get removed and you'll learn discipline and humility.

I don't think the chip comes from inexperience. It comes from being accustomed to violence, AND being encouraged by the system to utilize that experience in violence to solve problems which require MORE experience in just being a member of society as a Civilian. They still have the mind-set, emotional maturity, and self-esteem of soldiers.

Spot on bro
They ain't huggy psychologists there to affirm you. They are trained guard dogs on a short leash just as soldiers are war dogs....you mess with either at your own peril...nobody calls a cop to see the best that humanity has to offer, people only call cops to see the worst, and when somebody screams and gets in their face and touches them, the very predictable happens...at worst, the guy did not know his own strength or how easily the guy would go down, and none of this lynch mob would have done any better.

You're more conservative than anyone here? I'm impressed, too bad you don't know what a conservative is. Let's see how it plays out. Tell you what, if this piece of sh*t cop doesn't get fired, I'll make a 20$ donation to the charity of your choice, which would probably be the communist d*ck suckers of America, boo boo. If this worthless piece of white trash motherf*cker cop does get fired you make a 20$ donation to Tunnels to Towers. Glad we had this talk.
Hey, he's trying to make friends and influence others LOL
