You, of course, know what most cops do most times, rather than just baselessly smearing an entire class of people.
I think more training in de-escalation with a focus on not causing unnecessary physical harm would be a good thing overall. And maybe cut back on the frantic screaming they do. Not sure if they are told to do that but it doesn't help anything.

Well, I am from a time where if you gave a cop problems, you were gonna pay, and we had a lot fewer problems in general thanks to that. It IS regrettable the old man is hurt, it IS regrettable the cop did not realize how easily the old man would go down, we older folk break easily, and hope the old man heals up with no problem. There are still some older folk who can hurt you, though, and base responsibility still goes on the old man for telling a cop to shut up and laying hands, as a cop is not going to know what is gonna happen next.
problem is, the "old man(70 years old)" is 5 foot nothing, maybe 110 lbs. Built like a friggin 10 year old. Cop should have called for backup who can translate first or at least pulled out the FREE GOOGLE translate app. Meridian and NW 39th isn't too far from the Asian district. (They WERE next to Dunkin Donuts though)

Bilingual Unit

The Oklahoma City Police Bilingual Unit was formed in 2003, with the purpose of assisting the police department to perform its mission and deliver its services in situations where languages other than spoken English are used. The Bilingual Unit is comprised of police officers from various units within the department who are proficient in Spanish, Vietnamese, or Sign Language.
The Bilingual Unit assists the department in accomplishing its mission by providing trained interpreters to assist in routine calls and investigations. Members of the Bilingual Unit maintain positive contact and relationships with various communities and individuals who speak languages other than spoken English, and by performing linguistic and cultural training.
Officers who pass a proficiency test and become members of this unit receive incentive pay of up to $100 per pay-period, depending on their level of proficiency.
The Oklahoma City Police Department also uses the Language Line service to communicate via phone with certified interpreters who can communicate in various other languages.

Well what do y’all think on this one? The view near the end of clip, from a nearby camera, is pretty brutal. Old Asian guys head hit the pavement hard.

Language barrier is obviously an issue. Old guy was being uncooperative too. But the cop took him down awful hard.

I reviewed the video. It looked to me that the officer used a wrist lock that turned into an armlock, and that's what drove the civilian into the ground.

Wrist locks are better for ensuring compliance and immobilizing the attacker; armlocks normally take the attacker to the ground, and the impact can be very forceful because of the attacker's body drop.

Please realize that by "attacker" I mean the recipient of the technique. The Japanese term would be "uke".

Based upon what I could see, the officer used reasonable force but he underestimated the effect of his technique.

It's an expensive lesson for everyone involved. Even unarmed techniques can break bones and leave permanent injuries.

Well it shouldn't be. I think the police have become too violent and they always have their guns out and screaming now. It's different than it was even 20 years ago.
Cop was reasonably cool until the old guy popped him on the vest and told him to shut up. KABOOM! Not someone I want meeting my autistic son. Who behaves as perfectly as is humanly possible, but can be a bit slow to respond to verbal instruction. Takes him a while to process the instructions, especially if they're any sort of complicated.

Yeah, I have a very close friend whose son has Asberger's and he has the same concerns as you.

Obviously one cop is either ill trained in using that unit or has a short fuse and doesn’t care. I hope they get him ofthe streets and the old man gets a BIG check😉👏👏👏👏👏👏
