You know, we could do a protest and invite the media. We would need to really make sure our message was tightly focused, though or we'd look bad. I might know a little about doing this.

I suggest writing these officials as a first step. Respectfully let them know why you disagree with the points in the article. Also be sure to cc the letter to the city manager or mayor. If they get only one or two letters it won't work but 6 or 12 or more will perk up their ears perhaps.

Not to say this will solve the problem but it might open an dialog or cause a little needed self-reflection. If that fails, then it would be time to consider protest type actions.

Here is the best contact info I have been able to put together:

Oklahoma City:
[email protected]
Attn: Chief Bill Citty
cc to Mayor Mick Cornet, [email protected]

City of Spencer
8200 NE 36th St
P.O. Box 660
Spencer, OK 73084
ATTN Police Chief Virgil Green
cc to City Manager Nicole Mukes: [email protected]
or use online contact form: http://www.cityofspencer.us/contact-us/

Stillwater:
[email protected]
Attn: Public Safety Director
or [email protected] or perhaps [email protected] (guessing at this one)
cc to City Manager Dan Galloway [email protected]

Potential points to make in the letter:

I read your opinion piece in newsok.com titled, "Police chiefs: Congress needs to protect those who protect our communities" in which you call for background checks on all private sales of firearms.

There would be no way to enforce a private transfer background check requirement without all guns being registered. What would stop individuals from selling guns to each other? - nothing, because there would be no way to know that a transfer had occurred. Those who wish to ban private firearms ownership know this and are aiming to first get a private sale background check requirement on the books and then work to demand registration to make it work.

There are a tremendous number of firearms in private hands. Criminals will always be able to steal what they need unless severe restrictions on our freedom are made. Such restrictions were made in Great Britain where violent crimes have worsened not improved. You refer to "gun violence," but the British now suffer under "knife violence" and "strong arm violence" which disarmed citizens are powerless to resist. Where is the benefit?

Your well intentioned proposal is an erosion of the Second Amendment. I oppose it because over and over in other countries, registration has led to confiscation. The founders of our nation wanted a armed population for the possibility that a tyrannical government would arise and need to be opposed by an armed citizenry. This is why the government must never know who owns guns and this is why I oppose all new restrictions and regulations of our right to keep and bear arms.

I ask you to reconsider your position on this issue.

Didn't this forum just give the Spencer chief a pass over being used by Pelosi, et.al., at a DC press conference? I seem to recall he made some sort of weak sauce excuse and this forum bought it. Some here are getting the wool pulled over their eyes, IMO. He seems to be totally in league with Bill Citty, a known IACP shill when it comes to gun-grabbing. OKC voters that value firearms freedom would do well to grab their council reps by the stacking swivel to insist they get a handle on that through the city manager.

This forum didn't give him a pass...a couple people on the forum did.

Anyone who lives in Spencer, Norman, or OKC should be mobilizing against these political stooges disguised in police informs.
