thanks very much for your input, it's appreciated!... purpose of thread is to inform folks of the national trend of home invasions.

it's all over the country and most folks are not even aware that it's happening. thank goodness smaller towns seem to have lower instances.

Relax dude, I'm just pointing out there are a lot in Tulsa. I can assure you there are not near as many going on in Edmond. I'm not disillusioned about where I live and am fully prepared at all times for an encounter with an unsavory character. Again, I appreciate your thread and will refrain from commenting in it in the future...

Man arrested after reported home invasion rape and robbery

[Broken External Image]
Brandon Cleo Powell

Published: 10/28/2010 11:26 AM

Police arrested a man in connection with a home invasion robbery and rape that the victim said happened after she did not have any cash to give the robber.

Brandon Cleo Powell, 23, was booked into the Tulsa Jail Wednesday night on complaints of first-degree burglary and first-degree rape as well as two complaints of armed robbery, Two women reported to police that they were robbed and one of the victims was raped on Oct. 10 by a man who broke into an apartment in the 2500 block of East 37th Street North.

Neither woman knew the attacker who took pocket change and a cellular phone from them, Sgt. Mark Mears said.

Police received the 911 call after the attack about 3:30 a.m. that morning. Three adults and two children were in the house at the time, but only two women encountered the robber.

The women reported that a man wearing a mask with a skeleton design on it who was armed with a handgun entered the back door of the apartment and demanded cash.

Mears said that the victim told police that she was sexually assaulted, “because she told him she did not have any cash to give him.”

Mears said that police received a Crime Stoppers tip following the attack and Detective Rodney Russo followed up on it. The investigation led to Powell being identified as a suspect, he said.

Powell met with police Wednesday night and then was interviewed at the Detective Division.

A Sex Crimes detective arrested him after Powell confessed to entering the unlocked apartment without
consent, robbing the victims while armed with a gun and sexually assaulting one of the women, according to an arrest report.

It happened near 46th and South Braden. Police tell NewsChannel 8 they received a call around ten o'clock Monday morning that a burglary had taken place at a condo in the neighborhood.

A neighbor had heard the burglary and called the homeowner. That's when the neighbor approached the suspect and confronted him.

Cy you beat me to it - that townhome (they are fairly nice little townhomes/condos, not apartments) is about four houses down the street from me.

I heard the alarm at my house as I was leaving my house around 10:30ish, and going north on Sheridan saw two TPD flying about 85 mph, so I knew something was up.

This one is real close to home. It reaffirms why I keep the shotgun next to my desk during the day (I work from home by myself) and always have my pistol on me.

Woman Attacked And Beaten In Home Invasion Robbery

Posted: Nov 08, 2010 8:15 AM CST

Tulsa Police are looking for three men who robbed and beat a woman inside her apartment overnight.

Around 12:30 a.m. Monday, Tulsa Police were called to the Tower Crossing Apartments at 4346 South 109th East Ave in reference to a robbery.

After speaking with the female victim police learned that she had just returned from walking her dog when she was followed into her apartment by three men, one of whom was carrying a gun.

Once inside, she says the men attacked and beat her before taking her wallet, cell phone and television.

According to a police report, the suspects are described as three black males.

One of the men was "significantly" taller than the other two and wearing a black, "out dated" leather jacket.

A second man was wearing a white sweatshirt.

Police investigating three overnight robberies

Published: 11/8/2010 9:21 AM

A string of overnight robberies, some of which are possibly connected, have detectives busy looking for suspects, police said.

One robbery involved three men who police said entered a woman's apartment and assaulted her before robbing and fleeing the residence early Monday morning.

Police said the woman was out walking her dog about 12:20 a.m. in the 4300 block of South 109th East Avenue when three armed men followed her back into her home.

The men hit her on the head and face before one of them rummaged through her purse and took her wallet and cell phone, police report.

One man then took her television, police said.

All three men were black males, and one was significantly taller than the other two and was wearing a black leather jacket described as "outdated," police said.

Another man was wearing a white sweatshirt, and there was no description of the third man.

Another robbery and assault involved suspect descriptions of three similar men who shot a man about 11:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 23rd Street.

Sgt. Dave Walker said several men were in a parking lot installing a stereo in a car when three men approached and demanded cash.

They took the stereo as at least one of the suspects assaulted the men in the parking lot, Walker said.

As the robbers ran away, one turned and shot one of the victims in the parking lot, he said.

The shot was a graze on the head that the man only realized he had after the incident,
Walker said.

Another robbery that had a somewhat similar suspect description happened about 10:15 p.m. in the 7400 block of East 47th Street, Walker said.

Three black males about six feet tall and 180 pounds approached a man outside an apartment talking on his cell phone.

Two of the men had handguns and demanded money, Walker said.

They entered the apartment and stole a purse from the bedroom, he said.

Anyone with any information about the home invasions and robberies is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 596-COPS.

Home invader allegedly shoots accomplice after entering Tulsa home

Published: 11/10/2010 7:49 AM

A man is in critical condition at a local hospital after he was allegedly shot by his partner during a home invasion, apparently by accident, police report.

Just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night police responded to the 2200 block of North Delaware Boulevard to a shots fired call, police said.

When they arrived they found a blood trail in the street that led to a home where four residents told police they were victims of a home invasion.

The victims told police there was a knock on the door and a suspect had a white bandana over his face, police said.

When they refused to open the door, the suspects kicked the door open and told the residents to put their hands up, police said.

Two suspects entered the home and the man wearing the white bandana fired two rounds -- one round hit a living room wall and the other round hit the other suspect, the residents told police.

The suspected shooter dragged the other suspect out of the residence to the street where a vehicle was waiting, police said.

Police allege Ronnie Dean Bridges, 27, is the suspect who was shot and was later contacted when he arrived at a local hospital with a gun shot wound to his chest, police said.

Bridges was rushed to surgery and remained in critical condition Wednesday morning, police reported.

Additional suspects have not been identified, police said.

The residents of a home in the 2200 block of North Delaware Boulevard told police that the intruders knocked on their door and then kicked it open just before 9 p.m. Tuesday. The two men entered the home and told the four residents to put their hands up, police said.

One man fired a small silver handgun twice, with one bullet hitting a living room wall and the other hitting the other intruder, the residents told police.

The shooter dragged the other man out of the house to the street, where a vehicle was waiting, police said. A blood trail led from the home to the street.

Police said Ronnie Dean Bridges, 27, was dropped off at a Tulsa hospital with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Bridges was rushed to surgery and was in critical condition Wednesday, police reported.

The man who shot him had not been found, police said Wednesday. He was wearing a white bandana over his face, and a description wasn't available.

Murder case filed against man charged in burglary
A man who is accused of breaking into a townhouse and shooting a neighbor who checked on the burglary was charged Wednesday with murder.

Joseph Edward Nevels, 41, of Tulsa is charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 1
shooting death of Mark Scott Miller, 43.

Nevels is also charged with second-degree burglary, malicious injury to property and leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage.

Police said Miller heard a burglar alarm at the townhome next to his, in the 4600 block of South Granite Avenue, around 10:15 a.m. Nov. 1. Miller armed himself with a handgun and went next door to investigate, police said.

He encountered Nevels, and the two men fought in a parking lot behind the residence, according to police. Nevels got the gun away from Miller and shot him to death, police said.

Nevels was arrested in a nearby parking lot.

Police believe that Nevels also drove a 2005 Dodge pickup through a wooden fence and brick wall entrance to the townhomes around 6:30 a.m. the same day and then ran away. Nevels is also accused of throwing a concrete block into the windshield of a car shortly before the shooting, according to police and court records.

Nevels is in the Tulsa Jail with bail set at more than $1 million.

Police released a sketch of a man who posed as an Oklahoma Natural Gas worker when he robbed a woman in her northwest Oklahoma City home.
Sketch provided by the Oklahoma City Police Department

The man wore a hard hat when he knocked on the door of a house in the 4000 block of NW 62 about 8 a.m. Nov. 5, police said.

After claiming to work for the gas company, the man asked the woman for access to the backyard. He asked if the woman had any dogs, and she told him she did not, police said.

She described the man as black, wearing some type of blue work suit, a white hard hat and a tool belt.

The man returned to the front door and asked the woman if he could get in the garage. Then, a second man appeared and the man in the hard hat pulled a gun.

The second man was described only as black and wearing a mask.

The robbers ransacked the house and stole the woman's purse and a bucket of change before fleeing.

Tulsa Police were called to the 2100 block of S. 76th E. Pl. during the 8 a.m. hour on reports of a home invasion and robbery.

The victim told police she was taking out the trash when three men wearing bandanas and sweatshirt hoodies rushed her from behind.

One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and forced her back into her home.

The suspects then grabbed jewelry, some cash, and a flat screen TV before taking off.

Sgt. Mike Williams, Tulsa Police Department East Division responded to the scene.

"She (the victim) cooperated first, which was the right thing to do, because you have no idea what these people have in mind," Williams said.
