not many places of any size are immune to home invasions...
they are treated like any other news event and quickly fall off the radar.
was hoping other folks would also post home invasions from other spots besides Tulsa.

do a google search for home invasion Edmond or OKC or Muskogee or anytown ...
Tulsa is not the only place this is happening!

Tulsa just puts the info out there for everyone to read, on the news and police department website. Robberies are up about 40% so far this year though:

http://tulsapolice.org/records/crime_tables.html

After living in the OKC metro for nearly 10 years, the violent crime rate there is somewhat less than Tulsa, but it's no Nirvana. The TV news just doesn't report it as widely.

Start reading here: http://newsok.com/news/crime and see how much weird crap shows up on a daily basis.

I know what you mean, but I was just going through the entire thread and it's crazy how almost all of the ones in here have happened within the last year!

note the start date of this thread... June 28, 2010
with exception of a few old home invasions posted initially.

almost all home invasions listed in this thread are in Tulsa, within the last 90 days. ALL thugs in above home invasions that I'm aware of have been caught. great work Tulsa PD!

Tulsa is NOT the only place this is happening.... rarely are all the home invasion events for one city posted in one place. usually they fall off the radar quickly...

anytime I tell folks about all the recent home invasions in Tulsa... they look at me like I'd some crazy schizophrenic, paranoid person.

chance favors the prepared!!!
if heaven forbid someone tries to enter into my home uninvited.
they will find a very unpleasant surprise.

+1 and they also occur at all hours of the day, not just overnight. Many of them are morning rush hour (6-8 am) or middle of the day.

I keep the shotgun by my desk during the day, as I work out of my home. When the wife and son are home, it gets locked up and the pistol becomes primary.

Relax dude, I'm just pointing out there are a lot in Tulsa. I can assure you there are not near as many going on in Edmond. I'm not disillusioned about where I live and am fully prepared at all times for an encounter with an unsavory character. Again, I appreciate your thread and will refrain from commenting in it in the future...

Several of my staff members are armed. Additionally, I have cameras all over office and my home too, all which I can watch on my PC or iPhone.

Bottom line, you have to work at not being a victim. Pay attention to your surroundings and the people coming near you.

Two of three defendants ID'd in robbery, assault at attorney's home

Byron Latrell Smith (left) and Ryan K. Smith are brought to a Tulsa County courtroom for a preliminary hearing Thursday.

Two witnesses identified Ryan Smith as the robber who tried to get his accomplices to shoot the victims.

William Harley Tottress is escorted by a deputy to a Tulsa County courtroom for a preliminary hearing Thursday. A victim identified Tottress as the robber who tried to calm his accomplices and suggested not killing anyone.

Published: 9/30/2010 11:19 PM

Two defendants were identified in court Thursday as two of the three men who assaulted two men and a child and threatened to kill them during a home-invasion robbery in June.

Ryan K. Smith, 21, Byron Latrell Smith, 23, and William Harley Tottress, 24, are charged in connection with the robbery and assault at Tulsa attorney Stephen Rodolf’s home near 26th Street and Peoria Avenue on the night of June 20, court records show.

Ryan Smith and Tottress also are charged in connection with a July 6 home invasion at the home of lawyer Rabon Martin in the 1400 block of South Carson Avenue, court records show.

Police reported that two armed men assaulted Martin in his home and stole several guns and a laptop computer. Martin, who was terminally ill at the time, has since died.

Rodolf testified at a preliminary hearing Thursday that three masked men entered his home about 10:15 p.m. June 20 through a garage door he had left open for friends he was expecting.

Hearing a sound in the garage, Rodolf said he went to meet his friends but was instead attacked by the three robbers.

One of the men put a gun to Rodolf’s head and pushed him to the floor, putting his knee into Rodolf’s back as he demanded money and the combination to a safe, Rodolf testified.

When Assistant District Attorney Tony Evans asked whether he could identify the robbers in court, Rodolf asked to leave the witness stand and approach the defendants.

Rodolf then identified Ryan Smith and Tottress as two of the three men but said he didn’t see the third assailant well enough to identify
him.

Rodolf also identified Ryan Smith as the attacker who apparently wanted to kill all three of the victims.

“He yelled, ‘Let’s shoot them all. Shoot them now. I hate f------ white people,’?” Rodolf said.

He identified Tottress as the robber who tried to calm the situation and suggested not killing anyone.

Angelette Smith, the mother of Ryan and Byron Smith, said she doesn’t believe that her sons had anything to do with the robberies and are being set up.

Smith was not a witness and spoke outside the court proceedings Thursday.

“Both my kids have never been in trouble,” she said. “I know they didn’t do this.”

The robbers took $15,000 to $20,000 worth of guns, a Lexus, laptop computers, a Civil War-era sword and two iPods, among other items, Rodolf said.

Officer Todd Taylor, who helped arrest Tottress, testified Thursday that when he searched Tottress’ car, he found the sword and an iPod with Rodolf’s name inscribed on the back.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled to continue Nov. 9 in Tulsa County District Court.
