Published: 9/16/2010 10:34 AM

A homeowner caught up to and detained one of several suspected burglars who fled in a car after the man arrived at the house Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Police responded to a first-degree burglary call just after 4 p.m. in the 1500 block of East 67th Court and took into custody the suspect the man had detained, police said.

Brandon Derrell Johnson, 22, was booked into Tulsa Jail on $20,000 bond on one complaint of first-degree burglary, jail records show.

The homeowner told police that four men were fleeing from the house in a car when he got home, police said.

The man chased the car to the Pheasant Run Apartments in the 7200 block of South Lewis Avenue, where the driver and one other occupant fled on foot, police said.

Two other suspects bailed out of the car during the chase, police report.

The man then caught the driver after a short foot pursuit, police said.

Items allegedly stolen in the burglary were recovered inside the car, police said.

Police investigate morning home invasion

Published: 9/16/2010 8:35 AM

Police are looking for two armed men whom they allege broke into a man's apartment and ran away with a flat-screen TV Thursday morning.

A man who lived there was struck in the head and treated at the scene in the 4800 block of South Victor Avenue at the Victor Apartments, police said.

The men also may have stolen money before fleeing about 7:15 a.m., said Sgt. Ted Umbarger.

The two suspects were armed with a handgun, he said.

Police are also trying to contact a woman they believe was home with the victim at the time but left after the robbery, Umbarger said.

One suspect was a black male, about five feet eight inches tall and weighed 285 pounds. Police said he is bald and may go by the name "Anthony."

The other suspect is described as a black male, six feet one inch tall and 185 pounds, police said.

Police said the men may have been seen walking through the area carrying the 46 inch flatscreen TV.

Home invaders shot man, forced others into vehicle

Tulsa police work at the scene of a late-night shooting Thursday.

[Broken External Image]

Published: 9/24/2010 5:17 AM

A man was shot during a home-invasion late Thursday, police said.

The victim was in critical condition when he was taken by ambulance to St. John Medical Center, police said.

Police received a call around 11:15 p.m. that a man had been shot, Sgt. Michael Brown said.

The man who made the call was visiting the victim at the time of the incident and had been pistol whipped, Brown said.

The caller and another man were "forced at gunpoint in the suspect's vehicle and driven more than a mile away" from where the shooting occurred, said Sgt. Steve Stoltz.

The caller made the call from a pay phone at at 2024 E. Pine Street, police said.

Police were able to find the shooting victim at a house in the 2100 block of East Tecumseh Street and made a forced entry into the residence, Stoltz said. There they found a man with a gunshot wound to the head.

Stoltz said the victims were sitting in the house when just before 10 p.m. three to four invaders entered the residence through a side door, all carrying handguns.

Police said the men forced everyone in the room on the floor and "demanded to know where the [shooting] victim was."

The victim was taken into another room where the other victims heard a shot, police said.

The shooting victim's name has not been released.

A man, who did not want to be identified because he lives near the home, said he understood
from witnesses at the scene that three men and a woman were walking down the street with a dog and entered the home.

Another neighbor, a woman who also didn't want to be identified, said she filled out a witness statement and saw three men sitting in a car minutes before the shooting on North Yorktown Avenue, a block away from the residence.

Stoltz said the three victims were Hispanic and spoke limited English so police had a difficult time at first trying to find out what happened. Several bilingual officers were dispatched to the scene to help translate for the witnesses.

Stoltz said the motive for the shooting is unclear.

this thread was started 6-28-2010
amazing the number of home invasions documented since then.

the door get answered with a shotgun in hand ... if the door gets answered at all.

what's more amazing is the excellent job Tulsa Police has been doing arresting thugs involved. it's my understanding, ALL of the Tulsa home invasions thugs documented in this thread have been caught and arrested.

Two of three defendants ID'd in robbery, assault at attorney's home

[Broken External Image]

Byron Latrell Smith (left) and Ryan K. Smith are brought to a Tulsa County courtroom for a preliminary hearing Thursday.

Two witnesses identified Ryan Smith as the robber who tried to get his accomplices to shoot the victims.

William Harley Tottress is escorted by a deputy to a Tulsa County courtroom for a preliminary hearing Thursday. A victim identified Tottress as the robber who tried to calm his accomplices and suggested not killing anyone.

Published: 9/30/2010 11:19 PM

Two defendants were identified in court Thursday as two of the three men who assaulted two men and a child and threatened to kill them during a home-invasion robbery in June.

Ryan K. Smith, 21, Byron Latrell Smith, 23, and William Harley Tottress, 24, are charged in connection with the robbery and assault at Tulsa attorney Stephen Rodolf’s home near 26th Street and Peoria Avenue on the night of June 20, court records show.

Ryan Smith and Tottress also are charged in connection with a July 6 home invasion at the home of lawyer Rabon Martin in the 1400 block of South Carson Avenue, court records show.

Police reported that two armed men assaulted Martin in his home and stole several guns and a laptop computer. Martin, who was terminally ill at the time, has since died.

Rodolf testified at a preliminary hearing Thursday that three masked men entered his home about 10:15 p.m. June 20 through a garage door he had left open for friends he was expecting.

Hearing a sound in the garage, Rodolf said he went to meet his friends but was instead attacked by the three robbers.

One of the men put a gun to Rodolf’s head and pushed him to the floor, putting his knee into Rodolf’s back as he demanded money and the combination to a safe, Rodolf testified.

When Assistant District Attorney Tony Evans asked whether he could identify the robbers in court, Rodolf asked to leave the witness stand and approach the defendants.

Rodolf then identified Ryan Smith and Tottress as two of the three men but said he didn’t see the third assailant well enough to identify
him.

Rodolf also identified Ryan Smith as the attacker who apparently wanted to kill all three of the victims.

“He yelled, ‘Let’s shoot them all. Shoot them now. I hate f------ white people,’?” Rodolf said.

He identified Tottress as the robber who tried to calm the situation and suggested not killing anyone.

Angelette Smith, the mother of Ryan and Byron Smith, said she doesn’t believe that her sons had anything to do with the robberies and are being set up.

Smith was not a witness and spoke outside the court proceedings Thursday.

“Both my kids have never been in trouble,” she said. “I know they didn’t do this.”

The robbers took $15,000 to $20,000 worth of guns, a Lexus, laptop computers, a Civil War-era sword and two iPods, among other items, Rodolf said.

Officer Todd Taylor, who helped arrest Tottress, testified Thursday that when he searched Tottress’ car, he found the sword and an iPod with Rodolf’s name inscribed on the back.

The preliminary hearing is scheduled to continue Nov. 9 in Tulsa County District Court.
