I bought a military surplus rifle in 1964 from Otasco for $29.95 and then there was Western Auto also. Those stores had a distinctive smell-like new tires that I remember. Those were the days when one could go into Western Auto and buy almost any bicycle part you'd want from rims, bearings, mudflaps etc. They're gone.

The Otasco in Marlow is 10 miles away from me,not much left in the store these days.If they have any guns left its not much.Gibsons went out of business in Duncan a few years ago and I bought a marlin 336C for $150.00.They had some good deals on Mossberg shotguns too.

My Dad was an OTASCO shopper all right. Water(swamp) cooler, car repairs, car parts, camping gear, fishing poles, I mean he was hooked on that store. As a teenager I loved going to town with him on Saturday because I knew we would be going in that store and get to spend about an hour while he looked around, visited and shopped. One of my friends in high school went to work there and eventually bought the store. It's not OTASCO now, not sure what it is because I moved away about 40 years ago and seldom get back there.

Otasco was the go-to place for CVA black powder kits. We could cruise in there as snot nosed kids and buy a kit. With a little supervision from dad, we'd be shooting an a day or so.

I was an Otasco asst mgr and bought all my guns at company cost there. Ruger Security Six $140. Ruger Bearcats were almost $100 cheaper! Remington 1100 was $160. In MWC Bill Atkinson used to come in to buy guns. (he owned the shopping center) I traded him a new pistol for a couple of his one time. Enjoyed working around OKC for the 7 yrs I was with them. Sometimes when in Yukon I shop in the Ace Hdwe there. It's run by the son of the man (Mr Carpenter) who owned it as an Otasco associate store.

ETA; The Yukon Ace Hdwe still pretty much feels like an Otasco store.

I still have a .22 revolver my dad bought when otasco went out in Ponca. The only gun he ever bought and shot it once. Put it in the closet where it stayed until he passed, then mom wanted it out of her house so it went to mine.

TG&Y and Walmart wouldn't sell ammo to me when I was a kid, and after my Mom had fill out paperwork at Walmart to buy me some .22s she said she'd never do that again. OTASCO was no questions. Just buy it and go shoot. I too picked up many a pop bottle to buy ammo before I was old enough to start hauling hay.
