if it is a redux model the gas block would have been welded on at the factory. says heliarc welding.

I won’t say it wasn’t welded like this at the factory. What I would say is that it looks like the welders first day on the job.

i think cracked welds on the gas block was common. on some models you could just replace with a surplus gi barrel.

Surplus GI anything older than GWOT is getting hard to come by, particularly firearm parts. Lord willing I’ll dumb across one. I suppose I ought to get to more gun shows since the parts aren’t falling out of the sky here.
