This was a real interesting trip. It started out as a wildlife sight seeing tour, but nothing was moving. The Guide said that he had a radio report of a pod of Orcas, so we hooked it north to find them.
Canadian law says you can't come closer than 200 yds, so they won't be disturbed. We took some long pics, but all of a sudden they came at us like topedo's! The guide was screaming like a girl telling everybody to get to the other side of the Zodiac! I held my ground, and started taking pics. The big 9 ton female was less than 10' from the boat when she went under with her dorsal fin hitting the boat. The three orcas in the pod were under the boat eating chinook salmon that we had parked over. It was crazy for several moments with them hitting the bottom of the boat, and watching over the side while they were in their feeding frenzy under the zodiac. All of the girls were screaming, and the guide was up on top of the motors trying to take pics as well. It was over, and we all started laughing and talking about it. The guide said that in his 17 years of taking people on tours like this, it was his first time to have something like this happen. Highlight of the trip!!
