Been toying with the idea of a shooting mat,,,

Got more 2 of them for Christmas. Wife got them off Amazon.

That's actually quite handy looking,,,

I carry 2 of the 72x80 blankets in my truck all the time for when i need to get under a vehicule and the youngun uses them when we go to the farm to spread out on the ground to sit on, but my main reason i got them was for emergency blankets in case something happen and needed protection from the weather if was on the road i also carry a couple of wool blankets in the truck also.

But for some reason I don't enjoy shooting from a bench.

For some reason I can't seem to find an ideal stool/chair height,,,

I bench rest shoot at Snake Creek and their cheap folding chairs are too low for the bench height. I bought a Northern Tool pneumatic roll-around stool and it’s also handy around the garage.

I have tried to use one of those common metal adjustable stools,,,
Actually I have two left over from my portrait studio days.

No wheels and a hard metal seat,,,
Your option looks much more comfortable and useable.

I got turned onto yoga mats. I cut one of my wife’s old ones in half, rounded off the corners and have two pieces to place on the firing bench. Cheap, soft, pretty waterproof. For ground shooting jus leave it in one piece. You wife or Wally World should be you go to source. They have different thicknesses to choose from.

It boggles my mind how often in my life,,,
That applied directly to me.

I could just go to that carpet store again,,,
The remnants I bought for that Appleseed shoot worked.

If I were to get two pieces of shag carpeting,,,
And place them together carpet to carpet,,,
That would be padding enough I think,,,
I could make them as wide as I want.

The only bad thing about them was,,,
They sure collected the grass stems on both sides.

I've found several on Amazon that would work,,,
All for under a fifty dollar bill,,,
But they are only 28" wide.

I would like them to be at least 36" wide.

Oh well,,,
It's too cold now anyways,,,
I'll just keep on looking for a wide one.

I’m a wide boy, and have one like ClintC posted. It is too narrow to be honest. It is a nice case, just made for thin fellers and Chinese.

That's what I am finding as I look at different ones,,,
I did find one that was 40" wide,,,
But only 60 inches long.

Go figure.

That's why I'm considering making one out of carpet remnants.

I do have two that are 78" by 28" in my Amazon wish list,,,
Both are under $40.00 so I might try one of them.

I'm semi-skinny,,,
But have long arms,,,
I want my elbows on the mat.

Well I'm glad that I hesitated until this morning to order a mat,,,
I decided to give Amazon one more look,,,
And I found a mat I believe will work.

It's 74" long, 43" wide, and has 8mm of padding,,,
That's the closest one to what I had in mind.

I had thought maybe a camping sleeping pad would suffice,,,
I searched for them and found 8mm was the norm for these pads,,,
So I decided that if 8mm was all I could find in a shooting mat, that would be fine.

But the 43" width was what really sold me.

At just under $75 shipped,,,
It's pricier than I wanted to find,,,
But it dawned on me I have Amazon Prime,,,
If I get it and don't like it, the cost of returning it is nothing.

So I whipped out the old MasterCard and it should be here by the 10th,,,
I'll post pics of the real thing when it comes in.
