@TerryMiller i know you guys often have various types of equipment issues, but it sure sounds like an enjoyable (most of the time) way to spend the summer. Looking forward to a new round of photos.

Safe travels

Yes, David. It can be fun. After all, we are getting paid a wage, paid per deim for each of us, and of course, the company pays for the hotels and all expenses on the van. In essence, we are paid to drive around and see new country.

While Rhode Island wanted us up here on Wednesday to work the certification sites (4 of them), the actual database from which we will work isn't ready yet. Last I heard, it may be Tuesday before we get that and can actually get to work.

We did get out to those two areas I mentioned earlier, and fortunately, there were very few people out there. I took about 40-some photos at the Scarborough North State Beach (near our first certification site) and then about 60 down in the area of the Point Judith Lighthouse.

This one is a view of Point Judith lighthouse from the Scarborough North State Beach. If you look closely, you can see that this image shows the light being on.

Now down in the Point Judith Lighthouse area. It is on a Coast Guard station, so access to it is very limited. While the station is pretty well fenced in, if one walks a rough kind of trail towards the back side, one can get pictures. Oddly enough, there was no fence on the south side, but I didn't think I wanted to risk arrest by getting too close to their facilities. Thus, the zoom lens got used for the close-up shots.

I even managed to get a few photos of some "wildlife."

I had no idea cats would eat Slim Jims, but evidently, Lil Red wanted to give one a try. :anyone:
I've always liked Slim Jims but don't get brave enough to eat one very often because I know what's in store for me afterwards.......

This little (ok little isn't an accurate descriptor any longer) will eat ANYTHING ... Sometimes he will give me the side eye, like "OMG we're supposed to EAT THIS?!?!?!?!" but most of the time he's down for anything. And his figure shows it. 😉🤣🤣🤣

I have some nice bird feeders located just outside about 4’ from my desk and computer. For nearly 30 years I’ve been taking pictures of my visitors there and around our 5 acres and uploading to my website. ** the Tyny Goat Ranch - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,USA--Pygmy and Nigerian Dwarf Goats Since I have about 50 different birds captured on film it’s not often I get a ‘new’ one like I did this bunting yesterday.

Now, it has been sitting, sitting, sitting and waiting for our work database to be sent to us so we can start work. Maybe it will be ready for us tomorrow sometime, but who really knows. At least we are getting paid, but I'd much rather be working and earning that pay.

Update:

We got our database a bit before noon, but it was close to 1:00 before we got out and got to collect some data on some of the roads. We hit one that we will have to try again on the weekend as they are doing road construction for a mile or so and in one area they had really wet down the road. Since we can't work with wet roads, we just went on south and did some other roads. Even with a short day and a few issues, we still managed to get 84 miles worked. Normally, we try to get between 150 to 200 miles per day, if possible.

So, it still wasn't a bad day. The only thing that concerns us a bit is that we have quite of bit of roads in Providence, of which the downtown stuff will probably be worked on a Sunday when there is less (we hope) going on down there.

EDIT:

The wife lied to me, in a way. We DROVE 84 miles, but of that we only worked 29 miles. That is how this job works. One can drive a lot of miles but not get that many worked. 200 miles WORKED is a very good day.
