Processing question. I’ve processed my own deer the past couple of years which had greatly improved the flavor/texture of the meat by being meticulous about removing silver skin etc. however I was wondering what cuts others do as far as cooking etc. I have been just quartering my deer and cutting out the backstrap without gutting. I make steaks from the backstrap and then grind all the rest. Am I missing out on a roast etc?

I separate the muscle on hind quarters into roasts. Most we throw in the crock pot in the mornings before work with taters, carrots and seasoning. Onion soup and ranch dressing mix with butter is my go to. Cook on low all day and have a meal ready to eat when we get home. Just me and the wife, can have leftovers the next night. That is if she doesn't scarf it up to take for lunch the next day, which usually happens. Left over meat can also be used for sandwiches, being tender from slow cooking.

Speaking of rain, while we have seen nothing but hot weather since we got to the Wichita Falls area for working, they have obviously had some good rains here in the past. We keep passing fields with lots of round bales of hay, so they must have been blessed in the past.
I’m north of you guys about 50 miles or so. We got lots of small rains early in the summer which kept everything growing, but it’s been hot and dry for about the last month or so. A lot more hay was produced this year compared to last year.

We got our daughter moved into her dorm yesterday afternoon, so she’s officially an OU student. I was dreading the actual moving process, but my wife kept telling me that the school had it organized and would handle most of it. Well, I have to admit that they pretty well have dorm move in day down to a science. It did take A LOT longer for us and the parents of her suite mate to get their room organized and unpacked due to the small size. After finally getting her situated, we took her out to eat at Chuy’s, and my wife and I headed to the OK house.
I’m fixing to head out and see if the yard is dry enough to mow.
I hope y’all have a great day!

If i don't shoot them in the neck i put it in crockpot and slowcook all day meat falls off the bone add bbq sauce and make sandwiches
Ok, I might have missed something from earlier, but what are you putting in the crockpot? Just about anything that’s been slow cooked and covered in bbq sauce is good, but I’m curious what you cooked.

Had a productive day today. I ended up getting both the cell cams with battery issues back up and running. I thought the heat might’ve zapped the external batteries, but one of the battery boxes was full of ants. I think that probably contributed to that one’s demise. I replaced a non cell camera with a cell camera at another location, and it’s sending pictures great.

I also got my yard mowed and didn’t need the new blades I ordered after all, but I think that has more to do with the fact it’s only been 3 weeks since I mowed last time.

Ooof, @retrieverman I spend about a couple of hour cleaning up the garden and taking care of critters this afternoon and me and Dawg both were ready to come back in. We're getting soft. And it really wasn't THAT hot. I guess I'm getting used to being a kept woman ... ☺😁

My sewing room is due an overhaul. Because I haul a LOT more INTO it than OUT of it ...😬😬😬

Y'all may not see me for a few days ... Errrr ... Weeks ... 😬😬😬 I will stick my head back in the door tomorrow afternoon and let y'all know how the roasted tomato soup recipe I posted in the Prepper Section turns out, tho. That will go in the oven in the morning before it gets too hot outside. Then I can put a pint up in the fridge and eat some for dinner. I've got some ciabatta bread leftover from dinner a few nights ago that will go good with it.
