Ok, at first I was going to only paint the "Fire" and "Safe" on one of my lowers just to help the two stand out when getting the fiance familiar with shooting. Now, the more I look into it, I'm getting an itch to do a little painting of the DPMS stamp on the same lower, if not both.

I was starting this thread in hopes that people would want to show off their painted rollmarks (doesn't necessarily have to be an AR lower, but preferred) just to inspire me, I'd like to see the creativity out there.

Maybe even include a little write-up? I've never used Testor's enamel before, is it thick or should I pick up some paint thinner as well? Would it be better to use CLP or Hoppe's No 9 to clean up around the marks?

You can use it as it comes but stirr it well first with a popcycle stick or something similar. Get a very fine brush from Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I prefer the ones called Line Stripers in around a "0" size very small

Naturally clean up before you start with paint thinner and don't use gun cleaner till it is hard.

If you go outside the lines you can clean it off and start over or wait till it is hard and just carefully clean off the excess with paint thinner. Try for perfection first!.

I don't have any experience but I read that some do this with melted white (or whatever color) crayon. Sounds weird but I have seen some good looking stuff done with crayon. Don't know about durability, though.

I picked up some Testor's acrylic paints today from the Hobby Lobby by my house and gave my skills a test run on my .22LR. Easier than I thought, can't wait to try it out on my lowers.

The job today isn't really worth a pic, but this is a pictureless thread in a picture forum, so I might have to post it to get the ball rolling.

I used the toothpick method with the testors paint and it worked well. Just soak or put a lot of gun oil on a gun patch and it will clean up any excess that you have leak out of the roll mark. I prefer to just do the safe/fire controls myself but if you do the roll mark right, then it looks pretty good.

I use lacquer sticks from Brownell's. They look just like crayons and have the texture of a grease pencil, I clean the area and then just swipe them over the markings until they are filled in and then wipe the access off, one the lacquer has cured, its in there for good.....if you decide you want to remove it, mineral spirits will do the job.
