As said above - The only real reason to turn it off every time you arent using it is to save a little power and heat.

I leave mine running all the time. I Only reboot for updates or if I'm seeing problems.

Keeping my laptops on kill the battery lifespans of my batteries. I wish plugging them in would bypass the battery and not wear them out.

As far as the vital hardware is concerned leaving it on will have no affect on it, a fan will be the first to have any problem from being left on. The

software will need a reboot from time to time. I have been in the pc/server biz for many years and have worked on several thousands of systems. Most of the hardware problems happen while powering on the system, not all but most of them.

It doesn't make a difference to your computer. Save on the heat and power if you don't mind waiting for it to boot.

Kind of what I'm thinking.
As a person thats been in the electronics field for about 40 years now, components are designed to operate in a range of temperature. When I worked in a lab that developed electronics for Vibrasize oil exploration, equipment, we subjected each completed console to temperatures from -70F to 165F in an enviromental chamber for 20 cycles in 24 hours before shipping to the consumer. If they didn't pass, they went back to the techs to find out why.
I only have a laptop, but it gets shut off if I'm leaving for an couple of hours.

anyone who complains of heat what processor are you running and what type of CASE to cool it, my homebuilt i5 2500k overclocked to 4.5 ghz is silently humming along fine in my air conditioned room, little to no heat put off when taxed.
