Woman Accused Of Threatening To 'Shoot Up' McAlester High School

https://www.newson6.com/story/41053...roristic-threat-against-mcalester-high-school

McALESTER, Oklahoma - A McAlester woman is in custody after authorities said she threatened to "shoot up" the high school and people inside.

Alexis Wilson, 18, is in custody at Pittsburg County Jail on a complaint of making terroristic threat, according to jail records.

Pittsburg County Sheriff's Office deputies said they arrested Wilson after getting an anonymous tip she told friends and co-workers she was going to shoot up the school. They said Wilson had been posting videos of herself shooting guns.

One of Wilson's co-workers at Pizza Inn in McAlester told the Sheriff's Office Wilson threatened "to shoot 400 people for fun," adding that there were so many people at her old school that she would like to do it to.

"You know it may not have been anything - we don't know 100%, but we are glad we got it before it turned into something," said Sheriff Chris Morris, Pittsburg County.

Wilson went to McAlester High School but dropped out in 9th grade, according to PCSO.

Deputies said Wilson denied making threats to shoot up the school but admitted she used to be suicidal and borderline homicidal and had thoughts of hurting people at the school in the past. She told deputies she was just trying to convince a co-worker that not everyone who owns a gun is bad.

"In today's times, you can't say stuff like that," the sheriff said. "And anytime something is said like that we are going to take it serious. And we are going to investigate it to the fullest extent and make an arrest if possible because we do not want any of our schools getting shot up. Nobody does."

Sheriff Chris Morris said Wilson had an AK-47 with six magazines and a 12-gauge shotgun with a stock sleeve for extra shells. Morris said Wilson picked up the AK-47 last week from a local gun shop with five extra high capacity magazines and 160 rounds of ammunition.

"If it would have happened and we wouldn't have gotten contacted, the person who reported it to us would feel horrible," said Pittsburg County Sheriff Christ Morris.

"We would feel horrible. If we got the information and we didn't follow up on it. So I think it's a blessing for McAlester and Pittsburg County to have received this information before something terrible or tragic did happen."

PCSO said the McAlester Public Schools Superintendent Randy Hughes has asked for additional security at the school.

"It's something I think every community fears," Sheriff Morris said. "With schools you know there's tornado drills, they do fire drills - but I think one of the biggest fears in every community is an active shooter."

Here is a bit more reading on the girl.

The part that gets me is this.
According to the police report, Wilson left McAlester High School after her freshman year. She told investigators that she had completed the program at Camp Thunderbird, a youth academy, and then tried to go back to the high school but was not allowed. She said she “tried to take night courses for her GED however wasn’t able to take the classes due to them not having night courses and not being able to take day classes because of work.”

Sheriff’s deputies said she “seemed to be upset about not being able to enroll back into McAlester High School but when asked if she was upset about the situation she stated that she wanted to complete her school however it didn’t upset her enough to do anything to the school. Alexis did state that in her past at school that she had some issues with being bullied in school however she stated that she was always good about just ignoring it and going on about her day.”

She is only 18.
Her parent or parents should have bucked up found a way to get her education.
Couldn't take GED courses because of work.. if it was my child they would not be working.
They would be going to school as priority 1.

But sometimes you do everything and you still get a dud.

Shades of the Stillwater murderer who drove her car into the crowd at the parade: mentally unstable, female, fast food worker.

We need to be praying for and trying to help mentally disturbed people - both to try to help them and to protect others. Kudos to the coworkers who reported the threat.

There is a real cost to "kicking the can down the road" and hoping the problem goes away or somebody else reports it. One of the parents of one the victims of the Parkland High School shooter has written that the murders could have been prevented if any adult who interacted with the future murderer had acted responsibily instead of shrugging him off to let someone else worry about.
