Where is the show?

Oklahoma City Fairgrounds... it seems like there is one every 2-3 weeks - different sponsors. Some are a lot better than others... I'm not going for the reason stated above - "it's going to be a seller's show" and I'm not selling right now. I bet even the prices of ammo are jacked up... Hopefully someone will post here.

Its like oil futures, its all speculation, no one knows what is going to happen. If you dont like the price, then dont buy it. I am not buying ARs at this moment, my thing is ammo, esp 22lr, buying what I can find when I find it.

My main interest is vintage firearms - early Marlin 336 levers, early Remington 700's, old Winchesters & Savage 99's, etc. I'm thinking it may be a buyer's market on those for a while as folks raise money for AR's. I'm looking at hitting the gun show @ OKC next weekend since I'll be in Norman next Friday night to see Asleep at the Wheel.

A bit of a thread diversion but what really surprised me about all this is the doubling of AR prices and the same not happening to AK's. AK's are going to be harder to get ahold of(import ban) and it's not like everybody has stacks of stripped AK lowers lying around to build from. AK ammo may be harder to get in the future(imported) yet it's still significantly cheaper than AR ammo. If you had gone to any recent big gun show lately, you would have seen 500 AR's and maybe 15 AK's. Where's the AK love/insanity ?

A little over two months ago, I decided I "needed" an AK to keep my AR company (also figured Obama would win and try to "do something" about guns he didn't have the political capital to do during his first term). Maybe I should go into fortune telling...

Didn't do anything about it, because I was trying to learn about them. Saw some at the big show for what I thought was too much, so I kept my wallet in my pocket. I looked around this week, but AKs are as hard to find as ARs. The only ones I saw were at Dong's. WASR 10 = $1150. Another stamped receiver model was $1999.

In November, I could have had a very nice Bulgarian milled receiver model with gorgeous wood furniture for $1500. I didn't get it because I thought that was just too damn much for what is supposed to be a "cheap" rifle. May have to put the AK idea on hold for a while; I just can't see putting AR $$$ into an AK. Maybe my expectations are off?

Got a good laugh at the stamped, butthole stock MAK-90 that was up on armslist just last night at over $1200. That's a great rifle, but $550-$650 all day long, until something stupid happens. Passed on my elusive Sa-85m at the Wannie show for $675 (shouldn't have), because it should have been a bit cheaper, and just missed a nice, square cut stamped MAK here on the forums just before the Newtown incident. I'm not too concerned; I've got some nice stuff - I was just wanting to add a couple of different variants to the collection. AKs have been hit hard, too - as mentioned, they're even trying to sell $500 WASRs for over a grand. AK mags have become scarce, as has the ammo for them. You can look back at all of my posts warning of the end times for cheap, steel cased 7.62x39 imported ammo. I've felt this way for a while, and have acted accordingly. I know of a few places that are supposed to have more back in stock after the first of the year, and if the prices don't jump to double-dumbass levels, I may add another case. As it is, I'm sitting OK. But more is better, unless you're getting scalped.

I think I'll start gouging you all! But in line with the new kinder, gentler JB, I promise I will whisper sweet nothings in your ears as I vigorously and repeatedly "gouge" you!

I don't know. There are so few for sale, it's hard to know what's a good deal on an AK now. $1000 used WASR's are becoming the norm.

I can tell you this though. I know 2 guys who are probably kicking themselves for selling 2 high quality AK's to me a few days before the Newtown incident ;)
