The birth certificate is REQUIRED BY LAW to become president. Tax returns are not, but I forgot, liberals don't actually have to obey laws that don't suit them.
What isn't required by law is the release of the "long form" which people were clamoring for until they got it. In fact, release of the long form is prohibited by Hawiian law. They made an exception in Obama's case. Preferential treatment Hmmmm? The president pressuring a state to break its own laws? Why aren't we hearing anything about that?

why should prior service be a requirement?

The founding fathers mostly served in a militia and I suppose they assumed we would still be drilling as militias today. That's the only reason I can think of why it's not a Constitutional requirement. As Commander in Chief, a person should have SOME idea what it's like to serve and be shipped off to war before he commands others to do so. IMHO

Obama promised if he didn;t fix the economy and make it better and if he didn't improve things for the common worker he would not run again! So, he can't keep his word?

The founding fathers didn't have a choice; it was that, be subjects, or die. I strongly disagree with veteran's status as a prerequisite. I want the best candidate for the job - regardless of what they chose to do for an occupation. I think that whole mindset somewhat plays into the "military industrial complex" Ike warned us about.

Truman (vet) - Korean War
Kennedy/Johnson (both vets) - Vietnam War
George HW Bush (vet) - 1st Iraq War
George W Bush (vet) - 2nd Iraq War/Afghanistan

Military service didn't stop any of the above from getting us into questionable conflicts - and that's just since WWII.

Jimmy Carter was a Navy Grad and he worked out well as a president, right?

3 of founders had no military experience. Adams, Jefferson and JQ Adams. Since then only a handfull.

IMO i think the only requirement ought to be a natural citizen.
