I’m making a desk for my girlfriend, and the decorative panels I’m putting in the legs on each end are curly maple, resawed from the same piece of lumber. I applied half a dozen finishes to samples of the maple, and my gf liked the looks of pure dark tung oil mixed 50% with citrus solvent. Here are the two panels, bookended. Finished panel on the left, untreated on the right:
