Decided to work smarter instead of harder. I only welded the spine where it connected to the spike. Then riveted the blade with brass rivets. It is as strong as any knife you'll ever use. Glad this project is done. I learned a new skill making it.

You must have a 40+ hp tractor. My 30 hp SCUT is limited to half that lifting capacity.
Ranch I work for here has 3 tractors over 100hp, 90hp bobcat and a 310d backhoe. I’m fortunate to be able to not worry about being able to move or lift things.

I think I'd have used iron rivets at least. Seen some bronze swords from grave goods that had sheared bronze rivets. Never know when you'll have to use whatever blade you have as a weapon. ;)

I ran a bead of Mig weld about an inch along the spine where it met the spike. But yes… if I had steel pin stock I would have/should have used that.

Nails, pieces of bolts, forged rivets, pieces of broken off drill bits, or broken screw drivers, lots of ways to improvise something like that. Welds tend to brittle, so I'd not depend on them, but all I know about forge welding is that I've never done it... ;) So any advise I could give on that would be , ummm, shall we say "suspect?" But even soft iron is a lot tougher than brass. Mild steel likewise.
