Does anyone have any recipes for the 75 or 80 gn A-Max bullets? I am waiting on H&H to get the Hornady 8th edition in, but wanted to get started. I really don't want to give my money to BPS. Looking for loads that did or did not work in .223. Thanks.

Get off my lawn.
I'd much rather buy the book from Bass Pro. It is probably cheaper and it isn't H&H.

Look at some loads with Ramshot Tac. Hornady 7th edition has very limited data for the heavy .223 bullets. It is rather disappointing.

Well for free and no asking nicely, this is the format. You should be able to follow the charges for the velocities listed. The last charge listed for each powder is the max charge. Not responsible for you blowing up anything, losing fingers/eyes/nose, or damage to rifle. Everything looks correct and I tried to double check but just wanted to list disclaimer

VDUB, you are a gentleman and a scholar. Muchas Grassy-O's. :respect::thanku::thanku::thanku:

That will get me started, and I fully understand the disclaimer. I make the same one when I post a recipe. If I change my screen name to "stubs" it's my own d@mn fault.

Not to be too picky, but the listed max above for Accurate 2520 for the 75 grain bullet is 22.5, and for the 80 grain bullet it is listed at 25.1. I guess I would suspect this data as it seems that the hevier bullet would get the lighter charge. Now I don't know for sure and I am not saying it,s wrong, it just doesn't look right.

Not claiming expertise here but the max for the heavier bullet would have to be less with the same powder. I've never used 2520 but it's that way with the powders I have used.

Well not sure what you can say about the loads but that is what is exactly in the book. Unless Hornady completely messed up those two lines of loads, the loads are correct. One thing to note and what you two might have overlooked is the max load on the 80gr gives you a higher velocity than the max load on the 75gr. Velocities being equal I would agree with what you two said. However with the 50fps increase on the 80 gr bullet, my experience tells me you will need more powder.

However I gave the disclaimer so if you are reading this and fairly new at reloading, please do yourself and your equipment a favor and start with a load in the middle and work your way up from there.

EDIT: Huck you are welcome and hopefully you find a load that works great for whatever rifle you are shooting!!!

Don't know how accurate this info is but I heard somewhere (can't remember exactly where) that the reason has to do with the 80gr being a very low drag bullet. Supposedly the length that its ojive contacts with the rifling is actually less than the 75gr's which reduces the pressure to below the 75's. Like I said, I have no idea if there's a bit of truth to it but it may be an adequate explanation for time being.

Disclaimer: take anything zcruse says with a grain of salt, he often makes mistakes just like everyone else!
