Is anyone watching this in CNBC 41 on cable 11pm-1am? Not anti gun, but the designer wrote memos on his design that is unsafe. The gun goes off when you disengage the safety. The cost to fix it was 5.5 cents and Remington wouldn't do it. This is a real kick in the butt, I have a 1968 7mm mag. It's my favorite rifle, now don't know if I'll use it. Of coures I will research this more. Remington had thousands of complaint's and deaths and is covering it up.

Uh, I believe they had a recall on that many years ago. I sent mine in and they took care of it. It was a big problem, I was deer hunting with my dad and a friend when I was a teenager. My friend and I went out stalking some mule deer, when we got back to the truck I dutifully pointed the gun to the ground and clicked the safety off so I could clear the chamber and it went off. The round went through the bottom part of the bumper and some of the shards hit my dad in the shins, very minor injury no medical attention needed. He almost killed me, accused me of having my finger on the trigger when I flipped the safety off. I swore that my finger was clear of the trigger. About a year later we heard about the recall. We were extremely fortunate that I was using proper gun safety that day, sadly there were a number of people that weren't so fortunate.
Anyway, the safety mechanism was made so that you could not open the bolt to clear the chamber if the safety was engaged, in the new models this is not the case. I recommend you check yours, without a round in the chamber of course, and if it's the old style contact Remington and send it in to them.

They did recall the 600 series.
And they did a $20 mod to the 700's to make them to where you could open the bolt with safety on for those that had the pre '82 models.
