If it is fine enough grit you will end up polishing out any scratches so I see no issue sanding all different directions if you think about it.
Your end result should be perfectly smooth plastic without any scratches.

I have tried rouge on a buffing wheel also.

Going to get the missing grit papers tom. I have 500 and 1000 specifically states wet use. Warm soapy Dawn in bucket and spray bottle. My old shoulders gonna get a work out! Then again I may say **** it after a half hour and order new ones! Haaaaaaaaa!

I will get 800, 1200, 1500? Or?

I have not done the headlights yet, was going to today but had to put a new belt tensioner on my Tundra. I will pick up my needed Wet Sand Paper in the morning! I took decent before photos of the wife’s car. I will do a before “I Jack em up or do them good” and after! LOL!

A drill is a much easier way to do this.

I've done the restore several times. No matter what method I use plastic always fades back. I gave up on these kits. I use deep woods off every few months. A couple minutes and they are clear for the next few months again.

I tried a few headlight kits, most were short-lived. Then I found this kit by Cerakote, absolutely the best I’ve seen, easy to do, has UV protection, if it’s good enough for a gun….
Cerakote Ceramic Headlight Restoration Kit

Have done 4 vehicles, all drastically improved night driving.
