Got a good deal on a gun safe, but there's a problem. The man I got it from was a hoarder, and the house was infested.

It goes without saying that I am going to strip all the carpet out, and anything else permeable, remove the door panel and clean inside etc. Anyone ever done this before, or similar things? Any and all suggestions are appreciated, because this isn't coming in my house if there is a chance of it still being a problem. Luckily I have an off site storage building I can keep it in until it's done.

nasty little buggers. I agree with Fire, but if you strip it, should be fine. Since I don't want any of the live fokkers around me or my stuff, I would have bombed the hell out of it before it went into my storage unit also.

Be sure to clean underneath it too. If it's a big one, be real careful when you tilt it. Best way may to be open door straight out, pull down on door, and have someone clean the underside. That's the method my safe delivery guy showed me.

An aside--hoarders are an interesting phenomenon. Makes me want to go out in the garage and throw something away . . .

Shouldn't be too tough if you are already planning on pulling the carpet. Like someone said, lock a fogger up inside it, shop-vac the corpses out and then wipe it down with the cleaner of your choosing to remove the insecticide funk - I'd plan on letting it sit, door open, at your storage site while it airs out good after bug bombing too.

So tell us, how sweet was the deal?
