Stop giving away foreign aid to country's and take care of our own here. Arming teachers that can handle it would be a great solution too.

RickN, in what ways do you disagree with Paul on this issue?

1) That we can not afford it. We can by just cutting a tiny portion of government waste.
2) That having armed police in schools is some how a bad thing. We have them in many other places why not protecting our most helpless?

For the record, one of the things I dislike most about our government is that they pass tons of laws but NEVER hire enough boots on the ground to enforce them. Just one example, "Lets raise taxes on the rich", but there are billions in unpaid taxes out there already.

Do you favor hiring more IRS employees "boots on the ground" to enforce those laws and collect those "unpaid taxes"?

Somebody find me something in Article I, Section 8 that has to do with school security--or schools at all, for that matter--and we can talk. Otherwise, you're just advocating growing fed.gov past its constitutional limits because you happen to like the cause.

Principles are what you do when it's not convenient.

Here, but occasionally There.
For what it's worth, I've seen the federal government at work with education. Back in the '80's, I was a school board member. That is when my eyes were opened to the fact that when the feds started providing money for school lunches, it then started dictating "conditions" to the school districts.

Can you imagine how far they would take things by paying for armed guards in schools? First of all, they would likely require that all those guards be "federalized" and unionized. Then we would have a "TSA-like" force wrecking havoc in our schools.

I'm for letting responsible and trained teachers and administrators be the ones to be carrying weapons. The proposed bill for allowing CLEET trained school officials and teachers carry concealed here in Oklahoma is fine with me. I DON'T think that individuals who have only been trained in the CCW class be the ones carrying.

As for Ron Paul.....pfffttt. While some of the things he advocates may be good, if his "handling" of such things were similar to his votes in Congress, I would be very suspicious of him.

What we really need is to increase the police state, children need to know that there will always be a policeman near to protect them and they need to further militarize our police departments while they are at it. I say put a sniper on the roof of each school too, maybe park an APC out front so those little kids will always know that big brother will protect them. I love seeing the people who hate Ron Paul disagree with everything he says, if Mitt had said we couldn't afford it his lemmings would be denouncing the very idea of having a cop at each school, but since Paul said it it can't be true. We can afford it, just borrow more money from China to fund it like the Republicans and democrats are so fond of doing for everything else. The Ron Paul derangement syndrome is hilarious tho, the hatred for him from so called conservatives is only matched by their hatred for other true conservatives and MAYBE Barry.

One problem with having armed guards for each school is the number of buildings a lot of schools have on each campus. It would take a LOT of officers to cover a medium sized high school campus - ag building & shop, gym, fieldhouse, woodshop, etc - not to mention the multitude of portable buildings a lot of districts utilize. And if some jack really wanted to wreak havoc - how about graduation, a basketball game, football game, etc. Lots of people crowded together and much easier to bring weapons & accesories in inside a tote bag or backpack.
