Savage Model 42 Survival Rifle?

I like that X-Caliber, but it's expensive enough to talk me out of putting one in the bunker. But, if I backpacked in the wilderness a lot, that would be a pretty cool option.

I had one of the Springfield's survival guns. Didn't care for it. The whole O/U thing for a survival gun lends itself to a heavy gun.

If Chiappa made the double badger in 12 gauge over .22 magnum, I'm pretty well certain I'd buy one of those.

If Chiappa would sell the X-caliber shotgun without all the adapters for a reasonable price, maybe just slightly more than the MSRP for a M-6 22($375), I'd probably pick up one of those(especially if it were chambered in 12 over .22 WMR).

Personally, I don't understand all the hoopla of wanting a shotgun in a "SHTF" or "doomsday" scenario. It isn't that the shotgun is ineffective, that's without question, it is that the ammunition is so heavy. I would much rather have a 22 than a shotgun in a survival situation. I can carry a semi auto 22 pistol and a brick of ammo for less weight than a shotgun and a single box of shotgun shells. As for the combo guns, the only justification I can see for them is used for multi game hunting (legal hunting), or as a backup tucked under the seat of a vehicle in bear country.
