What moron thinks they can demand money a month after buying a used car from a private party? The threat to “get his attorney involved” is laughable! Dumb azz ain’t got no attorney, and even if he did the legal fees would be more than the auto repair.

I’ve bought lemons before. Tough luck.. ya learn from it and move on. People that don’t take personal responsibility drive me crazy

I recently sold a car on marketplace, I told the guy I would give him a day to decide if he wanted to keep it or not ( I know I didn’t have to ) after about 4 weeks he sends me a text saying the water pump needs to be replaced and asks me if I want to pay for the repairs or refund all his money and me have the car towed back to BA from Muskogee ? I told him I was sorry but happened but I could not be responsible after that long and that is just something that happens to older cars, after thinking about it I decided I’d send him a couple of hundred dollars to help with the cost just as a good gesture, before I texted him to tell him he shot back that his attorney would get involved and was waiting on my reply of if I was gonna pay for all of the repairs or refund his money, I then blocked him and decided not to send him any money. Am I doing the right thing ? I’m guessing he has no recourse at all ?
I know the theme here is the same- and I 100% agree. The fact that in your OP you say you let him have it a day before he decided to keep?, then 4 weeks later he texts you makes it even clearer if it wasnt already clear it is sold as is, he accepted

NO doubt the buyer is just trying to take advantage and again has NO legal recourse.

I would bet the OP is an older guy and the buyer younger. The younger guy knows he is owed nothing but is just seeing what he can get. A lot of low quality people see the elderly as marks. So not a moron, just a POS.

Nope on him, you were going to make a gentleman's gesture but he got rude about it. Truthfully him wanting you to cover repairs or a full refund insinuate's that he knows the repairs are going to be costly.
In my opinion the waterpump was leaking a couple weeks prior to failing and he drove it till the engine overheated and quit. Severe engine damage and as soon as you reply by text, email or phone agreeing to cover repairs you will be paying for a new engine.
Did you write up a bill of sale stating that it is being "sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied?" And you both signed it and each got a copy?

Who are you calling old and elderly ? You want to square off ?? 😂😂😂😂
I am almost 62 and he is actually older than me, I knew he didn’t have an attorney and was just spouting off AND I understand it’s gonna cost him 780.00 to get it fixed and that’s gotta sting so I’m not mad at him but I just blocked him and wish him the best of luck ! I’ve never sold a vehicle in Oklahoma but didn’t figure it was much different than Texas.

You were going to be nicer than expected and he pushed it too far. IF he had only been more patient and more level headed, he could have been blessed with 25% of the job paid for. Its a risk buying ANY used vehicle as is. I sold a car a year or two ago and a KID buys it for his first vehicle. I hope he enjoys it Other than cosmetic issues It Seemed to survive my stepsons use for a year, and if that kid would've contacted me with a problem not soon after the deal. Thats the only case I would help him as much as I could. Not wanting his first car. first big deal to turn to trash. At his age I was rebuilding engines and trashed but good looking vehicles were my muse. My how times have changed. I was at a votech meet n greet last night and saw a kid with a HOT ROD T shirt on and almost WHOOPED!!
