I think JG has some T53's for under $150. The stocks look rough, but that shouldn't matter if you're going to mod the gun.

Lots of better milsurps if you want to Bubba one. I wouldn't do this one because of its wartime date and overall condition, and I would rather have a friendlier action, particularly the gorilla fingers safety on a hunting weapon.

Turkish Mausers are still reasonably priced, and make much better hunting weapons.

You might be ahead to hunt around for an inexpensive non-military rifle in a caliber more readily available--30-06,.308, .270.

I bought an old Savage 110 for $180 a while back. It was a perfectly functional 30-06. Now it's a 338-06, but it's easy to switch barrels on these.

Why not just get an M44 and put a scout scope mount on it. That way when these things reach their full value in some years like mausers today your kids wont cuss you.

No kidding...just like the $79.00 M44's and M38's.
