Yep, I got drafted in the draft lottery. The only options were what Terry described. When the letter came, went to a recruiter, handed him the envelope and we talked about my future. Enlisted for three years.

Kind of likewise here. After being "suspended" from college for a semester, I went home to wait for the draft. Got called to go to Amarillo for the testing, and when the test results hit the recruiters in OKC, they contacted the recruiter in Guymon to look me up and try to get me to go with Army Security Agency. As I preferred to have some choice in what I did in the Army, I went with the ASA even though because of the security clearance investigation, I had to enlist for 4 years.
What I did, while classified, was interesting, it wasn't something that I could ever do in civilian life except to work for the government.
