So I must have been one of the first to fall for the brilliantly marketed Hybrid. One can for them all!!! I've got other suppressors and I really don't mind a different suppressor for different applications. I got my Hybrid in April and it's been sitting in the box in the safe begging to be used. Wednesday I ran down to the river, screwed it onto my 7.5" AR, and ran a few mags...
The Hybrid feels great mounted on my SBR. With the 7.5" barrel and can, my overall length is right at the same as a 16" barreled carbine. The can isn't as light as some, but it's light enough it simply feels like you have a full length aluminum hand guard on a 16" rifle. The profile of the can (outside diameter) is the same as my Vltor hand guard so the Hybrid doesn't interfere with line of sight or look or feel awkward. With the Hybrid attached, that rifle looks and feels awesome. It sings fast, the weight is balanced, and it looks like it they were meant for each other.
I can't remember what Silencerco claims for SPL, but it's is NOT by any means hearing safe on my rifle. It's about the same as a 20 gauge shotgun. Keep in mind, I tried it on a 7.5" barrel. Without a suppressor, that thing is insanely loud (it normally sports a flaming pig!) I haven't tried the Hybrid on anything else, so I'm sure on a 10.5" or 14.5" AR barrel, the SPL will be drastically decreased. Remember, 7.5" barrel means there's powder burning inside the can. Honestly, I was really hoping that because of the size and construction of that can, it would make that rifle hearing safe-no other suppressor has! I've tried numerous others that either myself or others own. None of them quiet that thing down.
I may try it on my Norinco 56 over the weekend and give an update. If I'm real ambitious I'll load a few rounds of .458 SOCOM and try that also.
