Check the barrell for rifeling ,should be bright and shiny with defined lans and grooves.
A lot of them are about shot out, but then it depends what your gonna do with it?

So here is the scenario- tapco stock, 4 hi-cap mags for under 600. Too much?

I think it all depends on how bad you want one.

Complete russians with matching numbers tend to fetch more than others. On the flip side, someone might pay A LOT more for a modified tactical beat up norinco.

As a point of reference, you can currently get a Yugo from Samco for around $400. Mine was all numbers matching and in excellent shape.

Or you could take a chance and go the Century U-Fix-Em route and get something that may or may not need minor work for <$200

When you say an SKS with detachable mags, do you mean the one that takes the AK47 style mag. If so they are pricer.

Those would be the SKS-M and the SKS-D. They both take AK-47 mags. They are a little touchy though and typically usually only feed well from Chinese mags.

Have you bought one since December? Expect to pay at least $400-450 for a beat up Chinese.
