The boy who chased and shot was 32, not 15. The 15 yo was the perp.

My "rationale" is that if a cop can be "afraid for her life" by the thought of a nonexistent weapon and be acquitted in court, then a business owner who's just been robbed, exchanged gunfire, and is clinging to the back of a truck while the thief speeds away, is entitled to the same "afraid for his life" defense.

it sort of sucks because the owners son is not a criminal, but will likely end up in jail. you cannot be afraid for your life and pursuing a thief at the same time.

Sure you can. That's like saying you not allowed to become afraid once the roller coaster starts moving because you made the decision to ride it initially, it's a fluid situation.

There's know telling what went on once the thief figured out the kid was in the back of his truck. Did he attain high rates of speed, did he swerve all over the road trying to toss the kid out? Did he point a gun thru the glass at the kid? Lots of things could have happened after the kid jumped in the back of the truck that changed the situation and made him fear for his life.
