Obviously I am at the beginning of Stage 1 ...

Actually I have been thinking about this for quite some time. Ever since that guy grabbed me from behind and I couldn't get to my gun. If I had had a knife on me I could have gotten to it, I think.

Plus I would like to have one handy for stuff you need a knife for.

So it seems that maybe I am thinking about two knives ...

Firmly in stage 2 been there most of my life, the right knife for the right job.

I keep a boker auto around for utility and emergency usage, gonna have to get me something else for travel though through states that are more anal than ours, yes I know it's not legal to carry even here but the risk is minimal and the penalty isn't to horrendous and the advantage of a fast acting auto opener in an emergncy such as cutting away a seatbelt when one arm may be incapacitated are worth it to me.

I have a Coye ridgeback for edc fixed blade duty, for hunting I keep a pair of coldsteels in the pack a western hunter and a canadian belt knife both razor sharp for animal cleaning and I keep my SOG team leader on my belt for general utility chores.

When was this?

It's been a while ago. I was working out on an acreage with a bunch of lowlife fellas who didn't like answering to a woman. First they were just mouthy ... kinda worked their way up from there. My gun was concealed in the small of my back because we were doing controlled burns and clearing land and I needed it to be out of the way. :lookaroun Yea, I know ...

That's how I wound up with Jackie. If she hadn't been there and pulled him off me I am not sure how it would have ended up but I don't think I would have enjoyed it much. Found out later he was a registered sex offender ... :censored:

For that use, a Shivworks Clinch Pick is tough to beat. http://shivworks.com/clinchpick.asp

A good cheap alternative would be a Ka-Bar TDI with a good kydex sheath.

Now that's the best one I have seen yet ... BTW is the guy in those pics trying to get away or trying to gut a pig?? Seems like a bit of overkill going on there ... but since I have no knife training I am not sure ... LOL

Rule # 1 of knife fighting, you're gonna get cut.

Rule #2, get cut less than the other guy!
