Keep in mind that mild carbon steel will be good for straight walled pistol rounds at normal velocities. If your shooting full load .44 mags, they might not work well. Don't ask me how I know.

There are different grades of steel for range targets. AR400, AR500, and now AR600

The manufacturers will tell you what calibers are acceptable for each grade of steel.

AR 400 will take almost any pistol round, AR 500 will go up to center fire rifles that are less than a certain velocity and a certain grain of bullet.(don't remember), and the AR500 will take anything less than a .50BMG

The firearms and ammo you're using will dictate how much money you'll need to spend.
