Stretching out the 22lr

I love shooting the .22 at length. At the OKC gun club I go out to 300.

I‘ve heard nothing but good things about Bergara rimfires. If I can find a used one locally, I’m buying it.

A friend of mine has the BMR with steel barrel. We haven’t shot it a ton yet but so far so good. I bought this B14r with carbon barrel new in the box in the classifieds here a few weeks ago. It was a smokin deal I thought. I’ve got a few hundred rounds through it and so far I really like it. Someday I’ll ad the Bxr to the collection probably.

I will admit to having the .22 ELR bug bad. My primary rifle is a Vudoo 3-60 (3 lug, 60 degree bolt throw) in a JP APAC chassis running a 60MOA rail with a Vortex Razor Gen III 6-36x56 scope. But I also have a Tikka T1x that I’m planning on using for a local 100-yard match. I’m shooting Lapua Center-X almost exclusively. I can dial the Vudoo beyond 500 yards but 500 is as far as I’ve shot it. Fouled Bore in Ninneka has 1000 yards and I’m going to see how far I can stretch my rifle this season.

The 300 yard target caught hell today. The three shots in the lowest left corner were the first 3 of the day. Felt good to have numbers that worked from shooting the other day.

There is a big national shooting competition out there now for long range .22rf matches out to over 300 yards that is becoming extremely popular.
We have that match going on at the Ponca Range on an honorary basis. Go out to shoot and post a pic of the target for scores, leaving the target in the target shed for the director to pick up and officially score.
A lot of people are getting into it.

Yessir runnin Cci standard velocity. I’ve considered trying some of the match stuff from Eley and Lapua but it’s hard to pay what it costs while I’m having fun at 8.5 cents or so a shot.

Right now we are just shooting to hear the ring. Maybe next time I’ll buckle down and try for a nice 10 shot group.

It's been many years, but back in the day, standard velocity was used as match ammo because it was more consistent in velocity than the high speed stuff.
I'm pretty sure our local Youth Shooting Club still uses standard velocity in their weekly indoor shoots. They get grants for ammo from the Oklahoma Friends of the NRA.

I love shooting my rimfire fiery-arms,,,
The cost of ammo isn't too prohibitive for me,,,
And I get just as much enjoyment out of them as my few centerfire rifles.

After watching a member at my range hit a steel target at 500 yards,,,
I decided that in my retirement I wanted to "stretch out" the .22.

S0 just before I retired from OSU,,,
I purchased a CZ-457 Varmint with that AT-ONE stock.

I also bought That Vortex Diamondback scope another member posted about,,,
I was told that I might run out of adjustment at extreme distances,,,
So I also bought a 25MOA rail to mount it on.

I did pay a local gunsmith to mount and level the scope for me,,,
I wanted to eliminate the variable of my limited smithing skills completely.

Then I got Covid.

I tell ya that damn disease whupped my skinny butt for a long time,,,
Kept me from enjoying my new long range toy.

But I'm finally over it and ready to hit my range,,,
And start learning how to hit at distances.

I have 15,000 - plus rounds of Remington milsurp subsonic ammo,,,
It's performed very well for me at 100 yard distances,,,
Hopefully it will do me well to at least 300 yards.

Today a good friend of mine brought over a new scope to sight in on his 22. We got it dialed in I shared my numbers with him for dialing to 100, 200 and 300 yards. My dope worked for his rifle also. We were shooting the same Cci sv ammo. We decided to try the 400yd target. It’s a 25” steel plate. I’d say we got the dope decent today.
There’s definitely a heartbeat between a hit or a miss here. Lol
