suggestions on buying my sons 1st rifle

i need some help on choosing what would be a good choice for their first rifle. they are 8 and 10, have shoot bb guns and air soft , but not a 22 lr yet.

what have you guys used?

CZ 452 American. A gun they can shoot for the rest of their lives and give to their kids.

Not a semi-auto. Bolt, lever or single shot. That way if they get an itchy finger they only get one AD/ND.

A Cricket .22 is a good starter rifle for a kid

I purchased a CZ 452 Scout in .22 LR.

It has good iron sights, and is currently set up for single shot mode. It came with a magazine insert that makes it a single shot. In the future that can be replaced with either a 5 or 10 round magazine.

We have shot both prone and from the bench using rifle support bags. It is a quality rifle.

With tax it ran about $300.- from Tin Star Shooting Range. I found it via GunBroker. It was worth the drive to get it.

The Tin Star Shooting Range staff are very friendly and I will deal through them again on my future CZ 452 Scout purchases. They are nice rifles and you don't have to be a youngster to have a great time with one.

First 22 rifle.....Stevens Favorite, single shot. I don't think these rifles are even around anymore, maybe for at least 40-50 years???

I got the Stevens Favorite at or around 7 years old. Yes, my father was with me at ALL times when I shot it and when we went squirrel & rabbit hunting.

A great little gun: Stevens Favorite Model 71 Commerative, I still have it

By or about the age of 10, I graduated to a Marlin Model 60. Semi-Automatic, bought at the Chandler "OTASCO" store. Those were the days....before Wal-Mart!!
