8 speed transmission is going to be longer than the drive shaft! I think around 2018 or so the gas trucks have to get 30mpgs, something to that effect.

My mom's 1977 Lincoln did that. I was really young, but I remember being fascinated by how the car knew other cars were coming.

The newer 300 gets over thirty with the 8 speed and a V6. With a bit of engine technology (like something similar to Ford's EcoBoost) it is definitely feasible in a few years.

The trans is a German made ZF 8HP made by ZF Friedrichshafen. Looks like its be around since 2008. According to the info the engine will run 75 mph @ 1500 rpm in 8th gear.

look into bluemotion technology... 60+ mpg... not allowed in the us
