I'm looking at getting a .45 for a carry weapon & wanted opinions of people with more experience than me on Taurus. I'm looking at the PT145 or the PT745. I know nothing of Taurus but the pricing & reviews I've read online make it intriguing. A few people I know don't have very high opinions of Taurus in general but I wanted to hear a bit more. I've a Glock 23 now & I'm also kicking around the idea of a Glock 30 or 36, or a Kahr CW45. Thanks

I’ve got a PT 709 Slim that has well over 500 rounds through it without a hiccup. Taurus was all the rage back in the mid-80s after Brazil nationalized the arms industry and took over the Beretta plant.

I’ve generally found pistols from Brazil/Argentina/Spain to be reliable and well constructed, not state of the art, but working class dependable.

The political leadership of Brazil sucks, socialists just like ours.

For a CCW, I would go with the Glock or Kahr, I would not trust a Taurus. They may shoot fine 90% of the time, but it is the 10% that I can't live with. Not saying Glocks and Kahr is going to be 100%, but both have better records than the Taurus.

I have not shot the Kahr 45, but hear it is pretty rough in recoil. I have a K9 and a PM9, and love them.

One of the very best 9mms I ever owned was a Taurus PT92 with the frame mounted decocker. That thing ate everything I fed it and shot a nice pattern.

It's big brother, the PT100 (.40S&W) was a jam-o-matic however. :rolleyes2

But for a gun to stake your life on, I'd just stick with that Glock 23 and save my money for a good Zombie gun...either an AK, AR or a nice scattergun. :thumb:

I normally carry a CW45. May not be for everyone, but for me the recoil isn't a big thing.

I think with the Taurus it's kind of a hit and miss thing.
Some run like champs, others are problems.

I have had a few. All of mine ran great. I have heard horror stories about them as well. There is a Taurus firearm forum, may want to check it out and get some user opinions there.

A friend bought one from Academy in Tulsa and it had missing parts from the factory. It would shoot about 2 rds. and then jam. They did fix it, but I find their lack of QC to be unacceptable. I will never own a Taurus.

My uncle carries the PT145 as his carry gun, shoots it all the time and has never had a problem with it. I've had a few problems with ammo selection with my 709 slim, (cheap, dirty ammo can cause some malfs) but other than trying to get used to the trigger pull, I like it.

I have had only one late model Taurus 45, and it shoots every time. It has a lot of custom features for the price. It is very accurate, more accurate than me! I did put in a heavier spring in the slide to absorb a little more recoil. Great gun.
